Lagos Abuse Video Sparks Outrage, Calls Grow for Quick Intervention

A viral video showing the alleged assault of a 15-year-old girl by her mother has triggered widespread outrage in Lagos, with many Nigerians demanding urgent action from authorities.

The incident reportedly occurred at Tashoro Street near Ipaja, where the footage captured a woman attacking the teenager in a residential compound. In the video, the woman is seen restraining the girl and brandishing a knife, while bystanders attempt to intervene.

The clip, which circulated widely on social media platform X, drew strong reactions from users who condemned the act and called for immediate protection of the child. Many tagged relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, urging them to investigate and ensure justice.

As of the time of reporting, officials had yet to release a formal statement on the incident, leaving concerns about the girl’s safety and condition unresolved.

The incident has also reignited conversations around reporting mechanisms and the role of neighbours and bystanders in preventing abuse before it escalates.
