Adamawa: New APC

The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully inaugurated a new set of state executives following a peaceful consensus process. In a move aimed at fostering internal harmony ahead of the next electoral cycle, party delegates reached a unanimous agreement on the new leadership during a congress held on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The consensus arrangement, which was supervised by national party representatives and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw the return and emergence of key officials without the friction of a contested ballot. Party leaders in the state described the outcome as a "masterstroke of diplomacy," asserting that the decision to opt for consensus was born out of a collective desire to avoid post-congress litigations and factionalism. The new executive committee is expected to hit the ground running, with a primary focus on reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure across Adamawa’s 21 local government areas.

Former governors and sitting legislators from the state, have lauded the process as a sign of the party’s maturity. They emphasized that while democracy often thrives on competition, the "Adamawa Model" of consensus demonstrates that strategic unity is essential for a party looking to reclaim its dominance in the Northeast. With the leadership transition now complete, the focus shifts to how the new executives will navigate the complex political landscape and maintain this newfound cohesion through the coming years.

Do you think the "consensus" approach is the best way to ensure party stability, or does it deprive loyal members of their right to vote for their preferred leaders? Share your comments below!
