UK Minister, Peace Talks, US-Iran Conflict, War

A United Kingdom government minister has expressed disappointment over the failure of recent peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, as diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict stalled.

UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting said it was “disappointing” that talks held in Islamabad did not produce a breakthrough or a sustainable resolution to the war.

Speaking during a media interview, Streeting noted that while the negotiations had not yielded immediate success, diplomacy often requires persistence. He stressed that the lack of agreement does not diminish the importance of continued engagement between both sides.

The high-level talks, which reportedly lasted several hours, ended without a deal amid disagreements over key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and broader security concerns.

Despite the setback, international leaders have continued to call for restraint and renewed dialogue to prevent further escalation. Officials warned that prolonged conflict could worsen humanitarian conditions and disrupt global economic stability, particularly in energy markets.

Streeting reiterated that diplomatic efforts must remain ongoing, adding that negotiations often involve setbacks before eventual progress is achieved.

The stalled talks highlight the fragile nature of the current ceasefire and the challenges facing global efforts to secure lasting peace in the region.
