Tonye Cole Says Fubara Joined Illegal Rivers APC Faction and Isn’t Safe

Businessman and politician Tonye Cole has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of joining what he describes as an illegal faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, warning that the governor’s political future may be in jeopardy because of his actions. Cole’s comments come amid ongoing political tension in the South-South, where rival camps within the APC and opposition parties continue to contest influence ahead of the 2027 elections. In a statement, Cole insisted that Fubara’s alleged alignment with a splinter group claiming leadership of the Rivers APC lacks legitimacy and undermines democratic norms. He argued that the courts and party structures should determine the lawful leadership of any political faction, and that unilateral moves to attach oneself to a faction without due process are dangerous for both the individual and the party. Cole said, “He isn’t safe”, implying that legal challenges or internal party actions could later threaten Fubara’s political standing.
Fubara, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC after internal disputes in his home state, has been trying to consolidate support among party members. However, these efforts have drawn resistance from rivals who question the legality of the moves and the authority of those purporting to lead the state APC.
What do you think about the clash between Cole’s criticism and Fubara’s political strategy, and how should political parties manage internal disputes? Comment below and share your thoughts.
