President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate appointment of Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as his new Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).

The announcement, made via a statement from Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, confirms that Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart will replace Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down from the role to pursue an elective office in his home state.

He holds a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University (where he was an Edward Mason Fellow). He is also a LEAPS Fellow at MIT and previously focused on AI and civic tech as a Policy Fellow at Quantum Alliance AI in the US. Served as Research and Media Assistant to House Leaders in the 7th and 8th Assemblies, later rising to Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and eventually Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House during the 9th and 10th Assemblies.

Prior to this elevation, he served as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs since October 2023, where he contributed to key policy work including the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.

The Presidency emphasized that Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart’s primary mandate will be to foster seamless coordination between the Executive branch, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and the House of Representatives to drive the administration's legislative priorities forward.

Do you think appointing a veteran with deep roots inside the National Assembly will help smooth over recent policy debates between the Executive and the Green Chamber? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
