President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The 39-year-old academic is set to make history as the youngest registrar ever to head the national examination body.
Professor Aina will succeed the incumbent registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose successful and highly praised two-term tenure officially concludes on July 31, 2026.
A statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the incoming registrar as an exceptional academic and systems expert with vast experience in digital infrastructure, national examination integrity, and public-sector institutional reform.
Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, boasts a stellar academic track record specializing in systems and computer engineering:
- B.Eng. in Computer Systems Engineering: University of Kent, United Kingdom.
- M.Sc. in Internet Computing and Network Security: Loughborough University, United Kingdom.
- Ph.D. in Digital Signal Processing: Loughborough University, United Kingdom.
- Executive Education: Completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School (LBS).
He is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where he became one of Nigeria's youngest professors in the discipline. He is a certified member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the international Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Interestingly, Professor Aina’s relationship with the examination board is coming full circle. He began his professional association with JAMB years ago during his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he gained firsthand, foundational insights into national admissions management and data-driven institutional frameworks.
Over the past 15 years, he has built a robust career at the intersection of technology and policy. He has regularly advised federal and state governments on system designs and digital transitions, and has served as an expert ICT consultant to major educational bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
President Tinubu noted that he expects Professor Aina to leverage his practical tech insights and academic wealth to sustain and build upon the highly celebrated milestones achieved during Professor Oloyede’s administration.
