The Delta State Police Command has uncovered a disturbing case involving a 17-year-old boy accused of hacking into celebrities’ WhatsApp accounts and selling explicit materials to fellow students.

The revelation was made by the Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area, CSP Temi Agbede-Zuokumor, during a security awareness engagement.

According to the police, the case came to light after a routine check of a student’s mobile phone raised suspicion. Further examination revealed that the device contained numerous explicit materials and over 80 foreign contacts, including several Australian numbers.

Investigations showed that the teenager allegedly gained unauthorised access to WhatsApp accounts belonging to public figures and used the content obtained to run an illicit trade among his peers.

Police also discovered chat conversations indicating that the suspect sold the materials to classmates, who reportedly referred to him as “boss” while making requests for such content.

The incident has raised concerns about cybercrime among minors and the growing misuse of digital platforms, as authorities continue to stress the importance of parental supervision and online safety awareness.
