Plateau Governor Appeals for Stronger Partnership With Nigerian Air Force Over Rising Insecurity

Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has called for an enhanced security partnership with the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to confront rising insecurity in Plateau and the wider North-Central region. The governor made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke. Mutfwang congratulated the new air force chief on his appointment and commended the role of aerial operations in supporting peace and security within the state.
Governor Mutfwang described the security environment facing Plateau State as increasingly complex and characterised by asymmetric threats that require coordinated responses from federal and state security agencies. He stressed the importance of deepening cooperation, particularly in times when attacks often spike during festive seasons and critical agricultural periods. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support Nigerian Air Force operations so that air surveillance, intelligence and rapid response capabilities are optimised across vulnerable communities.
Air Marshal Aneke responded by reaffirming the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to maintaining a professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in joint operations with other security services. He highlighted ongoing contributions by the air force in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and air mobility support that have helped stabilise parts of Plateau. Both leaders agreed on the need for enhanced training, capability development and whole-of-government approaches to strengthen public safety and peace.
