The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 498 medicine premises across Lagos State for operating illegally and violating pharmaceutical regulations. The enforcement followed inspections of 845 premises, including 483 pharmacies, 162 patent medicine stores, and 200 illegal shops across 20 local government areas.

Head of Enforcement, Dr. Suleiman Chiroma, said the exercise aimed to rid the sector of unqualified operators and ensure compliance with the PCN Act of 2022. The sealed premises were found guilty of offences such as expired licences, sale of controlled drugs without authorisation, and unsafe drug storage.

Chiroma warned against unregulated access to controlled medicines and urged residents to patronise only licensed pharmacies. Meanwhile, PCN Lagos Zonal Director, Dr. Taiwo Filusi, dismissed allegations of ethnic bias in licensing, stressing that all applications are handled based on merit and compliance with procedures.
