Popular Nollywood actor Olumide Oworu, best known for his role as "Tari" in the hit sitcom The Johnsons, has officially shared the motivations behind his move into the Nigerian political landscape. Speaking on Friday, February 27, 2026, the young star explained that his decision to transition from entertainment to public service was born out of a deep-seated desire to see more youth-led representation in the rooms where critical decisions are made. Oworu, who has been increasingly vocal about social issues, stated that "complaining from the sidelines is no longer enough."

The actor noted that the 2020 #EndSARS protests were a major turning point for him, as they highlighted the disconnect between the government and the aspirations of the younger generation. According to Oworu, his entry into politics is not about "abandoning" his acting career, but rather using his platform to bridge that gap. He emphasized that the creative industry has given him a unique perspective on the challenges facing Nigerians, and he believes that the same discipline and empathy required in acting can be applied to legislative duties and community development.

Oworu’s political journey has not been without its hurdles; his previous attempt to run for the Lagos State House of Assembly faced significant administrative challenges and security concerns. However, the actor maintained that those experiences only strengthened his resolve to advocate for electoral transparency and a level playing field for newcomers. He urged other young professionals to stop viewing politics as a "dirty game" and instead see it as a necessary tool for systemic change. "If we don't get involved, we leave our future in the hands of those who don't understand our struggles," he remarked.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, Olumide Oworu is positioning himself as a symbol of the "new guard" in Nigerian politics. For him, the goal is clear: to ensure that the voice of the Nigerian youth is not just heard, but respected.

Do you think actors and entertainers can make effective politicians, or should they stick to the screen and leave governance to the "professionals"? Share your comments below!
