Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, YELO Network Africa, Vice President

The Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has been elected into a key leadership position within the Young Elected Local Officials (YELO) Network Africa, further strengthening Nigeria’s presence in continental governance discussions.

Obasa, who is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, secured the role during the ongoing YELO Summit held in Dakhla, Morocco. The gathering brought together young local government leaders from across Africa to promote inclusive governance and leadership development.

The YELO Network operates under the umbrella of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa and serves as a platform to amplify the voices of young elected officials across the continent.

His emergence is seen as a recognition of his leadership at the grassroots level and reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in regional and continental governance structures.

The summit focuses on capacity building, policy dialogue and the exchange of best practices among young leaders, with an emphasis on strengthening democratic institutions and promoting sustainable urban development across African communities.

Obasa’s election is expected to further enhance youth participation in governance and contribute to shaping policies that address local and regional development challenges across Africa.
