Nollywood Mourns: Veteran Actor Solomon Akiyesi Passes Away in Abuja

The Nigerian film industry has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of veteran actor and entrepreneur Solomon Akiyesi. The news was confirmed on Monday, April 27, 2026, by Abubakar Yakubu, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), sending shockwaves through the entertainment community.
According to the AGN President, Akiyesi passed away in his sleep on Sunday in Abuja. "He slept and did not wake up," Yakubu stated, noting that the actor’s remains have since been deposited in a mortuary in the Federal Capital Territory. While the industry grapples with the loss, the Guild is reportedly awaiting further details from the family regarding the exact circumstances and funeral arrangements.
Born in the Akoko-Edo area of Edo State, Akiyesi was a familiar face in Nollywood for over a decade. He was known for his versatility, often portraying authoritative or complex characters. Some of his most notable screen credits include:
