Netanyahu Says Israel Developing Support Plan for Christians in Nigeria
Omoyeni Olabode

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel is working on a defined agenda aimed at supporting Christian communities in Nigeria. He made this known during a meeting with evangelical Christian leaders in the United States, where he spoke about the security challenges facing Christians in several countries, including Nigeria. Netanyahu identified Nigeria as one of the places where Christian populations have been affected by violent attacks linked to insurgency and religious extremism.
According to Netanyahu, Israel intends to align with other countries that are concerned about the safety of Christians worldwide. He said the proposed agenda would involve cooperation at the international level, including diplomatic engagement and security-related assistance, although he did not provide specific operational details. Nigeria, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey were mentioned as countries where Christian communities face serious risks.
The Israeli leader also linked the proposed agenda to broader global efforts to address religious persecution. His comments followed recent international discussions on insecurity in Nigeria, especially in regions affected by Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks. Nigeria has one of the largest Christian populations in Africa, and religious violence has remained a recurring issue despite ongoing military and security operations by the Nigerian government.
Netanyahu did not state whether Israel has formally contacted Nigerian authorities regarding the agenda or how such support would be implemented within Nigeria’s legal and security challenges.
