The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has scheduled an Extraordinary National Executive Council (E-NEC) meeting for Saturday, October 25, 2025, to review the 30-day ultimatum previously issued to the Federal Government. The virtual meeting will assess the government’s response to unresolved welfare and policy demands affecting resident doctors nationwide.
The ultimatum, issued on September 26, highlighted issues such as excessive work hours, non-payment of CONMESS salary arrears, promotion delays, downgrading of newly employed resident doctors, and exclusion from specialist allowances.
NARD also raised concerns over dismissed resident doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and the slow implementation of the collective bargaining agreement with the Nigerian Medical Association.
Other grievances include inadequate infrastructure, obsolete equipment, brain drain, and the creation of consultant positions for non-medical doctors, which the association argues compromise patient care and professional standards.
The outcome of the Saturday meeting will determine whether NARD proceeds with further industrial action, emphasizing the urgent need for government intervention to address persistent systemic challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
