NAPTIP Investigates Ogun Parents Over Teenage Trafficking to Libya

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into two men in Ogun State over the alleged trafficking of their underage daughters to Libya for child labour.
The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Akinsanya Oladimeji and Kehinde Rasheed, 45, were accused of facilitating the movement of their 15-year-old daughters, Adeola and Rokibat Adeyemi, through desert routes to the North African country in 2024.
The Ogun State NAPTIP Commander, Bose Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the girls were reportedly received in Libya by Afusat Akinsanya, said to be the wife of one of the suspects and mother of Adeola.
According to Jimoh, Rasheed, a widower, later claimed that he was informed in February 2025 that his daughter, Rokibat, had died after falling ill while in Libya. Authorities, however, suspect attempts were made to conceal the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
The case came to light following pressure from members of Rasheed’s late wife’s family, who demanded clarity on the girl’s whereabouts. Their concerns prompted a report to the police, leading to the arrest of the two men.
The Nigeria Police Force subsequently transferred the matter to NAPTIP for further investigation.
Jimoh stated that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact cause of Rokibat’s death, while also working towards the rescue and repatriation of the second victim, who is believed to still be in Libya.
She added that the agency remains committed to ensuring that all those found culpable are held accountable, as investigations continue into the alleged trafficking network behind the incident.
