The Lagos State Government has announced plans to construct a ₦7 billion jetty at the Oworonshoki waterfront, as part of efforts to expand water transportation infrastructure in the state. The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, who said the project is aimed at improving connectivity and unlocking the economic potential of waterfront communities.
According to the commissioner, the proposed jetty will serve as a major transport hub for residents of Oworonshoki and surrounding areas, reducing dependence on congested road networks. He explained that the facility is expected to support commercial boat operations, enhance passenger safety, and encourage greater use of Lagos waterways as an alternative mode of transportation.
He added that proper planning, safety standards, and environmental considerations will be taken into account before construction begins, stressing that the jetty will be built to handle high passenger volumes and routine marine traffic.
The Oworonshoki jetty is one of several waterfront initiatives being considered to improve mobility and economic activity across Lagos. The state government believes investment in water transport will ease traffic pressure, create jobs, and boost local commerce.
