Lagos Deploys 229 Special Buses for Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme

The Lagos State Government has deployed 229 high- and medium-capacity buses as part of the first phase of the Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme — a major overhaul of public transport along the Lekki–Epe corridor. The new service is scheduled to begin operations on December 8, 2025, and will run along key routes including Ajah–CMS (Marina)/Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.
Under the plan, one of the operators will provide express-service buses, while others will run stage-carriage services to cover different commuter needs. All buses will bear Lagos’s blue-and-white livery, carry unique identification codes and QR-enabled Public Transport Compliance Stickers (PTCS), and use a cashless payment system via Cowry cards and Touch and Pay (TAP) stickers.
The reform also signals a shift away from small minibuses — popularly called “korope” — on major highways. The state government intends to reassign these smaller buses to feeder and community routes, as part of efforts to organise Lagos’s transport network under the broader Bus Reform Initiative.
This new deployment could transform commuting for many Lagos residents — offering safer, more comfortable, and more reliable travel options along the busy Lekki–Epe corridor. But for it to succeed, strict enforcement of the new cashless and compliance rules will be essential.
