Residents of Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State are currently celebrating after a nine-year-old boy, Victor Oluwatobi, regained his freedom from kidnappers. The young boy, who is the son of a local pastor, spent three weeks in the custody of armed gunmen before his safe release on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Armed men originally abducted him on Friday, June 5, 2026, during a midnight attack at Ugbosi Quarters in the community.
During the night attack, the gunmen destroyed two buildings while trying to kidnap the landlords, who fortunately managed to escape. In the middle of the confusion, Victor was left behind by his father, Pastor Oluwatobi, who could not rescue all his children at the same time because the boy was fast asleep. The Ondo State Government quickly set up a joint security operation involving the Army, Police, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes to search the forests for the criminals.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, confirmed the rescue on Sunday and announced that Victor has been reunited with his family. He thanked Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his quick intervention and praised the security operatives for their dedication and professional sacrifice. The state government also assured residents that they are doing everything possible to improve security across the state and protect lives.
