KAI Corps Marshal Issues Stern Warning to Lagosians Over Environmental Violations

The Corps Marshal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd), has called on residents of Lagos State to strictly adhere to environmental laws to avoid prosecution. The appeal was made during a routine monitoring exercise across the state on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Major Cole emphasized that the agency is stepping up its enforcement drive to ensure a cleaner and more habitable environment for all. He highlighted common violations—such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drains, street trading, and the failure of pedestrians to use designated overhead bridges—as major targets for the corps in the coming weeks.

According to the Corps Marshal, the state’s environmental laws are not meant to punish citizens but to prevent flooding, reduce the spread of diseases, and maintain the aesthetic value of the "Center of Excellence."

“Lagos belongs to all of us, and its cleanliness is a collective responsibility,” Major Cole stated. “We will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone caught flouting the law. From those dumping waste on the highways to traders blocking pedestrian walkways, our officers are on high alert. Ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse.”

The KAI boss also urged residents to patronize only licensed Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for waste disposal and warned against the use of "cart pushers," who often dump waste in unauthorized locations.

Do you think the KAI marshals are doing enough to keep Lagos clean, or do we need more awareness before enforcement? What environmental habit do you think Lagosians struggle with the most? Share your comments below!
