Kaduna Government, Mob Attack, Justice,

The Kaduna State Government has pledged long-term support for the family of Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher who was killed in a mob attack in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.

Governor Uba Sani made the announcement during a condolence visit to the bereaved family, nearly two weeks after the incident. He stated that the state would take responsibility for the welfare of the deceased’s husband and four children, including funding the children’s education.

According to reports, Ummulkhairi Aliyu was attacked on 14 June following allegations of attempted child abduction. The incident sparked outrage and renewed concerns about mob justice and public safety.

Condemning the act, the governor described the killing as barbaric and reiterated that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. He disclosed that investigations had progressed significantly, with dozens of individuals already investigated and several charged with offences including culpable homicide and unlawful assembly.

Governor Sani also stated that security agencies had been directed to ensure accountability and that the conduct of officers involved in handling the situation would be reviewed where necessary.

The incident has drawn reactions from religious leaders, civil society groups and human rights advocates, many of whom continue to call for stronger action against mob violence and greater public trust in lawful processes.

As authorities pursue justice, the government’s commitment to supporting the affected family highlights both the human cost of mob action and the wider need for accountability.
