Joe Igbokwe Opposes Move to Impeach Governor Fubara, Calls for Peace
Omoyeni Olabode

Lagos based chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe, has publicly declared his opposition to any plans aimed at impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. Speaking on the ongoing political crisis in the state, Igbokwe warned that removing the governor through such a process would be a mistake. He expressed deep concern over the continuous tension between the executive and other political actors in the region. According to him, the state needs stability to ensure that development projects reach the people rather than constant fighting over political control and power.
Igbokwe noted that the peace of Rivers State is very important to the overall stability of Nigeria because of its status as a major oil producing hub. He argued that instead of pushing for impeachment, all parties involved should sit down and find a way to resolve their differences through dialogue. He believes that the current path of confrontation will only lead to more distractions and hinder the governor from delivering on his promises to the residents of the state.
Igbokwe also emphasized that he has no personal interest in the matter other than seeing a peaceful resolution that favors the masses. He stated that the political drama in Rivers has dragged on for too long and is starting to affect the image of the democratic process in the country. By speaking out, he hopes to encourage other influential voices to join the call for a ceasefire. He maintained that governance should always be about the people and not about the personal interests of a few individuals who want to settle political scores.
