“If I Have To Move 20 Times, I Will” – Peter Obi Threatens To Dump ADC

The former Governor of Anambra State and presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has declared his readiness to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if its internal democratic processes are compromised. Speaking during a candid interview on Arise Television on Monday night, April 13, 2026, Obi emphasized that his loyalty lies with the integrity of the process rather than any specific political platform. He stated clearly that he is prepared to change parties as many as twenty times if that is what it takes to find a system that is not "transactional" or corrupted by the influence of money.
Obi used the opportunity to reflect on his previous political transitions, explaining that his move from APGA to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a strategic choice to avoid toxic governance in his home state. He further detailed his exit from the PDP, noting that he could not participate in primaries where candidates are expected to pay individuals in order to serve them. The politician maintained that his brief stint in the Labour Party was similarly an escape from a system where rules were not respected, asserting that he will not be a part of any organization that prioritizes wealth sharing over national productivity and merit.
The ADC, which has recently become the new home for the "Obidient" movement, now faces a direct challenge from its most prominent member to maintain transparency. Obi remarked that while he is currently with the ADC alongside many individuals who also left the PDP and other major parties, he is closely watching to see if the same old habits will resurface. He warned that if the party’s upcoming national convention or primary processes show signs of being compromised or skewed, he will not hesitate to speak out publicly and seek a different platform that aligns with his vision for a new Nigeria.
Do you think Peter Obi is right to threaten to leave the ADC if things go wrong, or should he stay and fight to fix the party from within? Share your opinions in the comments below!
