“Do Not Vote For Me Because I Am A Christian Or From South-East” – Peter Obi Tells Nigerians Ahead Of 2027

Peter Obi

The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has officially called on the Nigerian electorate to look beyond ethnic and religious affiliations as the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins. Obi, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated clearly that he does not want Nigerians to cast their ballots for him simply because he is a Christian or because he hails from the South-East geopolitical zone. He urged voters to prioritize competence and the urgent need to salvage the nation's economy over traditional identity politics.

During the broadcast, the former Anambra State Governor reiterated his core economic philosophy of moving Nigeria from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one. He argued that the primary criteria for leadership in the next dispensation should be a track record of integrity and a clear plan for wealth creation. Obi maintained that his move to the ADC was motivated by a desire to align with a platform that shares his vision for a functional Nigeria. He stressed that the problems facing the country, such as inflation and unemployment, do not respect religious or tribal boundaries, and therefore the solution must be sought through a unified national approach led by capable hands.

Obi highlighted that his administration would place a significant focus on the Northern part of Nigeria to unlock its vast agricultural and productive potential. He pointed out that restoring security and productivity to the North is essential for the overall stability and prosperity of the entire federation. By identifying the North as a starting point for his developmental agenda, Obi seeks to dispel notions of being a regional candidate and instead positions himself as a leader with a holistic understanding of Nigeria's internal challenges. He promised to focus on creating wealth at the grassroots level rather than the current system of sharing dwindling oil revenues at the center.

Do you agree with Peter Obi that Nigerians should ignore tribe and religion in the 2027 elections, or do you think these factors are still too important to overlook? Drop your comments below and let us know your thoughts!
