 Baba Ayewa

Funmi Adelakun, the 37-year-old daughter of legendary Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist Joseph Adebayo Adelakun—widely known as Baba Ayewa—has called out her father online. In a highly emotional video shared across social media, the distraught daughter pleaded with the public to beg her father to "set her free," accusing him of holding her hostage and subjecting her to years of extreme maltreatment.

The iconic gospel singer, famous for his timeless 1984 hit album “Amona Tete Mabo”, is now facing heavy public scrutiny as his daughter alleges that his saintly public image stands in stark contrast to how he treats her behind closed doors.

"I need my freedom. Please, Nigerians, help me beg my father to set me free. He has monitored and controlled my entire life since I was a child. I had to flee..."
Funmi Adelakun

In her viral video plea, Funmi detailed a long history of suffocating control, claiming her father has consistently monitored, micro-managed, and restricted her life.

Funmi alleged that she has had zero personal autonomy, with her movements, social circles, and life decisions heavily dictated and policed by her father. Overwhelmed by the psychological and emotional strain of the hostage-like environment, Funmi revealed she eventually gathered the courage to flee the family residence to escape the constant surveillance.

Despite successfully running away, Funmi claims she still feels hunted and systematically restricted, prompting her to take the matter to the court of public opinion to secure total, uncompromised independence.

While neither Baba Ayewa nor representatives from his ministry have released an official statement addressing the heavy accusations.
