Terrorist Infiltration

A wave of anxiety has gripped residents of Lagos and other parts of the South West geopolitical zone following reports that suspected terrorists and bandits are actively infiltrating the region. Recent deadly attacks and security breaches recorded in parts of Oyo and Ogun States, triggering fear that the criminal networks are expanding their footprints southward.

Earlier alarms raised indicated that bandits and terrorists being dislodged by heavy military offensives in the North West and North East zones are systematically relocating to find safe havens in the dense forests and border communities of the South West.

The security situation has placed residents in major hubs like Lagos on high alert, with many expressing deep concerns over the potential vulnerability of critical infrastructure, public spaces, and border local government areas. Grassroots actors and pan-Yoruba groups have intensified pressure on state governments within the region to drastically beef up security protocols and secure vulnerable entry points.

In response to the looming threat, there are calls for the immediate fortification of the Southwest Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, alongside increased collaboration with federal security agencies.

How do you think South West governors should handle this rising security threat to keep the region safe? Please drop your comments below!
