TikToker Peller

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced plans to prosecute popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, following a recent car crash involving him. The decision was confirmed after videos circulated online showing Peller allegedly live streaming while driving shortly before the incident. The FRSC said the case raises serious concerns about road safety, especially among social media influencers who engage in content creation while operating vehicles.

In a statement, the Corps warned that such behaviour violates existing road traffic regulations. It stated clearly that “live streaming, content creation, recording or engaging in any activity that distracts a driver while driving is a direct violation of established road traffic regulations and poses grave danger not only to the driver but to other innocent road users.” The agency stressed that distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of road accidents in Nigeria.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, explained that the prosecution would be based on specific offences captured under traffic laws. According to him, the action would be for “reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with extant traffic laws.” He added that the FRSC will not hesitate to enforce the law regardless of a person’s social status or online popularity.

The FRSC urged all motorists to prioritise safety over content creation and warned that violations would attract legal consequences. What do you think about the FRSC’s decision to prosecute Peller and its broader message to social media users? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
