Nigerian model and content creator Rachel Ojuromi made her international runway debut at the Chanel Spring/Summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week, marking an extraordinary transition from filming DIY "fit-check" videos on the bustling streets of Lagos to walking for one of fashion’s most iconic luxury houses. Her journey into fashion was far from conventional, having originally planned on pursuing medicine to become a neurosurgeon before shifting her focus to film studies, where her creative interests blossomed into a passion for high-fashion modeling.
Working alongside her close friend and stylist Debby Fasingha, Ojuromi began assembling thrifted and second-hand pieces from local markets to recreate high-fashion looks. Staging energetic runway walks against the vibrant backdrop of everyday Lagos life, the striking juxtaposition of luxury styling and urban reality quickly captured viral attention across social media platforms worldwide.
Her creative recreation of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection made massive waves online, eventually catching the eye of Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy, who was so impressed by her vision and presence that he invited her to participate in Chanel's official Paris collection.
Walking the Chanel runway represented a milestone of historic proportions for Ojuromi, serving not only as her major high-fashion debut but also marking her very first time traveling outside the African continent.
As she continues to expand her footprint in the global fashion industry, her story stands as a powerful testament to the impact of digital creativity and grassroots innovation in breaking traditional barriers.
