At least four people have died after two migrant boats capsized off the coast of Al Khums, Libya. The vessels were carrying a total of 95 irregular migrants, according to the Libyan Red Crescent.
The first boat, transporting 26 Bangladeshi migrants, resulted in four fatalities. The second boat, which carried 69 passengers including two Egyptians and several Sudanese migrants, capsized shortly after departure. The Red Crescent confirmed that many of the passengers were rescued, but did not provide detailed numbers for survivors from the second boat.
Rescue operations were conducted by the Libyan Coast Guard and the Khums Port Security Agency. Survivors were treated for exposure and dehydration and were provided with emergency supplies. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and handed over to local authorities for proper burial.
Libya continues to be a major transit point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe. What measures do you think should be implemented to prevent such tragedies in the future? Share your thoughts in the comments.
