Don Jazzy

Mavin Records boss and legendary producer Don Jazzy has shared the complexities of managing the new generation of music stars, specifically highlighting his experience with Ayra Starr and other Gen Z artists. The music mogul revealed that while their talent is undeniable, their approach to work and life presents unique challenges for a veteran of his era.

Don Jazzy noted that the primary "problem" stems from a difference in communication and the fast-paced, often impulsive nature of Gen Z digital culture. He explained that unlike previous generations of artists who were more inclined to follow a traditional, structured developmental path, younger stars like Ayra Starr are fiercely independent and highly influenced by the immediacy of social media trends. This "boundary-pushing" attitude, while successful for their global branding, occasionally clashes with the more calculated, long-term industry strategies he has used for decades.

Despite these friction points, the Mavin boss emphasized that this transparency is what makes the new era of Afrobeats so vibrant. He praised the "unapologetic" nature of his younger signees, admitting that he often has to "unlearn and relearn" to keep pace with their creative energy. Rather than a negative conflict, Don Jazzy described it as a necessary evolution for any record label looking to remain relevant in a Gen Z-dominated market.

Do you think the "rebellious" and independent nature of Gen Z artists is the secret to their global success, or do they still need the disciplined structure of industry veterans? Share your comments below!
