The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected fraudsters allegedly linked to a counterfeit United States dollar syndicate operating in Asaba, the state capital.
According to the Command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit on 9 June 2026.
The suspects, identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma and John Egwuba, were reportedly tracked and arrested along Nnebisi Road in Asaba after police received credible intelligence about their activities.
Police investigations revealed that the group allegedly used fake US dollar notes to defraud unsuspecting members of the public while moving around in a red, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to operating from a hideout within Asaba. A subsequent raid on the location led to the recovery of 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes and military camouflage concealed on the premises.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate's operations and identify any additional accomplices.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested two women in Owaliru and Alihame communities of Ika North-East Local Government Area for alleged involvement in the distribution of illicit substances.
The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were found in possession of substances suspected to be GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.
Authorities stated that preliminary findings indicate the women were actively involved in distributing the substances within the area. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected drug network.
Commending the officers involved, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety across the state.
