Davido, Movie Career

Afrobeats star Davido says he is ready to cross into the film industry and hopes to play the unconventional role of a taxi driver in a movie.

Speaking at a panel session titled “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film” during the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Davido revealed that his brother had offered him a role, but he specifically requested a character that is unusual and simple, like a taxi driver.

“I told him I wanted to do a role that would be shot by a taxi driver or something out of the blue… So I definitely want to get involved in movies,” he said.

Davido also expressed interest in producing films that showcase genuine African stories. He referenced international creatives like 50 Cent, who successfully transitioned into movie and television production, as major inspiration.

The award-winning singer noted that he wants to collaborate with African filmmakers and create projects that reflect real experiences, drawing from productions like the series Uncorked.
