Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has published detailed figures claiming that Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), spent about $5 million on the secondary school education of his four children in Switzerland. Dangote released the information in a paid newspaper advertisement on December 16, 2025, outlining the schools attended and estimated costs involved. He said this expense was on top of additional tertiary education spending alleged to be about $2 million for the same children.

According to Dangote’s document, the four children — Faisal Farouk, Farouk Jr., Ashraf Farouk, and Farhana Farouk — attended elite Swiss institutions including Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School over a six-year period. Dangote outlined an estimated $200,000 per year for each child in tuition, upkeep and travel, totalling about $800,000 annually for the four, and roughly $4.8 million over six years for secondary education. He rounded this total to about $5 million.

In addition, Dangote detailed alleged tertiary education costs, estimating that combined tuition, travel and living expenses for the children over four years amounted to about $2 million, including about $210,000 for Faisal’s 2025 Harvard MBA. Dangote argued that Nigerians deserve transparency on how a public officer could finance such high spending while basic educational costs remain beyond the reach of many families, especially in Farouk’s home state of Sokoto.

Dangote’s petition has been formally received by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which has begun reviewing the claims. Meanwhile, there are divided public reactions ranging from calls for a full investigation to defence of due process and respect for legal outcomes.
