Chaos in Ondo as Suspected Thugs Attack, Humiliate LG Chairman
Omoyeni Olabode

The Chairman of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, Tope Omolayo, was reportedly assaulted and stripped by suspected thugs on Monday during a violent incident at the council secretariat.
Omolayo, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, had recently returned to office after serving a six-month suspension imposed by councillors over allegations of gross misconduct. His resumption is believed to have reignited tensions within the local council.
According to eyewitness accounts, the chairman arrived at the secretariat to resume duties when a group of youths allegedly stormed the premises to prevent him from entering his office. The situation quickly escalated into chaos, with the attackers reportedly beating him and tearing his clothes.
An eyewitness said the incident caused panic across the secretariat, as staff and visitors fled for safety while the assailants disrupted activities within the complex.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident, stating that officers were immediately deployed to the scene to restore order and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, ordered swift intervention upon receiving reports of the attack. He added that calm had since been restored and investigations were underway to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Efforts to reach Omolayo for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone line was reportedly switched off at the time of filing this report.
