The Christian Association of Nigeria has expressed sharp disapproval of the title of a new Nollywood movie, A Very Dirty Christmas, starring actress Ini Edo, calling it inappropriate and morally offensive as the country approaches the festive season. The association said the movie’s title casts a negative light on the meaning of Christmas and could mislead audiences about the spirit of the holiday. CAN officials urged the filmmakers to reconsider the choice, warning that it could harm community values and religious sensitivities. (dailypost.ng)

In its public statement, CAN said the title A Very Dirty Christmas suggested moral decay and disrespect for a sacred period celebrated by millions of Christians in Nigeria and globally. The association cautioned Ini Edo and the production team to be mindful of cultural and religious contexts when naming and promoting films, especially during times of significant religious observance. CAN added that creative expression should not come at the expense of values that define and unite the community.

What are your thoughts on the reaction by CAN and the choice of title for A Very Dirty Christmas? Should filmmakers consider community and religious sentiments when naming movies? Share your views in the comments section.
