2027: Peter Obi is Having Fun in NDC, He is Not a Loss to ADC — Atiku’s Aide

Atiku’s

Demola Olarewaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has downplayed Peter Obi’s recent political movements, asserting that his departure to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is not a loss to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Olarewaju made these remarks while reacting to the ongoing restructuring of Nigeria's opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Peter Obi, who has been at the center of various political alignment talks, recently locked down the presidential ticket under the newly formed NDC platform, alongside his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Responding to commentators analyzing the shifting alliance layouts and whether the ADC lost out on a major electoral powerhouse, Atiku’s aide took a swipe at Obi's political trajectory, suggesting that his new alignment is more about optics than a formidable threat to the ruling class or established opposition blocks.

“Peter Obi is not a loss to ADC; he’s simply having fun in the NDC. What we are seeing is a merry-go-round of political branding that lacks the grassroots infrastructure required to genuinely challenge the status quo when the real battle begins,” Olarewaju posted on his social media page.

Olarewaju’s critique comes amid deep divisions within the opposition as they attempt to construct a unified front against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reelection bid.

With Atiku’s camp firmly dismissing the structural weight of the NDC, a unified coalition against the ruling APC looks highly unlikely as the 2027 campaign cycle draws closer.

What are your thoughts on Demola Olarewaju's comments? Do you think Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s NDC is a serious threat for 2027, or is the PDP right to dismiss it? Please share your comments below!
