14 Killed as US Targets Suspected Drug-Smuggling Boats in Pacific

US forces have killed 14 people in strikes targeting four alleged drug-smuggling boats in the eastern Pacific Ocean, according to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. The attacks, part of Washington’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, bring the total death toll to at least 57 since operations began in September.
Hegseth said the strikes took place in international waters, destroying vessels identified by US intelligence as trafficking narcotics. One survivor was reportedly rescued with assistance from Mexican authorities.
Videos shared by the Pentagon showed precision strikes on both stationary and moving boats. Hegseth warned that the US would continue to pursue drug traffickers globally, declaring, “We will track them, network them, and hunt and kill them.”
The military buildup in Latin America — including US Navy warships, F-35 jets, and the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier group — has heightened regional tensions, with Venezuela accusing Washington of attempting to destabilize its government.
