Members of the splinter faction of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have issued an ultimatum to Governor Dauda Lawal, threatening impeachment over alleged misuse of public funds tied to the renovation of the Yariman Bakura Teaching Hospital in Gusau, estimated at ₦9 billion—a cost lawmakers describe as excessive and unjustified for what should have been routine upgrades .

During a heated session on Thursday, the legislators condemned the hospital overhaul and other spending, accusing the governor of reckless financial management. They cited reports that the original project was introduced by a past administration at only ₦1 billion, questioning why it now carries a ninefold increase merely for superficial enhancements like painting .

The faction also referred broader fiscal concerns to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ICPC, demanding a full public breakdown of how funds—including allocations under NG‑CARES and FAAC—were spent. They gave the governor a two-week deadline to respond substantively.

Lawmakers moved for a formal vote of no confidence and the impeachment referral if Governor Lawal fails to satisfactorily clarify the funding, underscoring growing tensions and urgent calls for accountability in Zamfara’s financial governance
