YouTube Was Not Made for Movies, Says Bolaji Ogunmola

Bolaji Ogunmola

Nollywood actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola has shared her thoughts on why filmmakers should be careful with how they use YouTube. She explained that the platform was originally built for short videos and content creators, not for showing full-length professional movies. According to her, while many Nigerian producers are now moving their work to YouTube to make quick money from views, the platform does not give the same quality or respect as the cinema or big streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video.

Bolaji pointed out that putting high-budget films on YouTube can sometimes reduce the value of the hard work put into the production. She mentioned that the way people watch videos on YouTube is different from how they sit down to enjoy a proper cinema experience. For her, YouTube is a great place for engagement and reaching a wide audience, but it should not be the final bus stop for serious filmmakers who want to build a lasting legacy in the industry. She encouraged her colleagues to think about the long-term image of their brands before rushing to upload everything online for free.

She remains one of the rising stars in the industry, known for her dedication to quality acting and production.
