Yemi Solade Says No Actress Can Buy G-Wagon from Acting Income

Veteran actor Yemi Solade has sparked fresh debate with his statement that no actress in Nollywood can afford to buy a Mercedes G-Wagon from acting earnings alone. Speaking on the state of the industry, Solade explained that the pay structure for actors and actresses does not match the extravagant lifestyles often associated with some celebrities. According to him, the cost of luxury cars is far above what movie roles in Nigeria can realistically provide, especially for those who rely solely on acting as their source of income.
Solade noted that even after decades in the industry, many actors still struggle to secure roles that can sustain their financial needs. He stressed that Nollywood professionals put in long hours during film production, yet their compensation remains modest. He argued that the notion of actresses funding luxury cars directly from acting is misleading and creates unrealistic expectations for the industry. His comments have drawn attention to the financial struggles hidden behind the glamour often displayed on social media.
The actor further pointed out that many Nollywood stars are forced to diversify their sources of income. Some turn to endorsements, personal businesses, or side ventures in order to supplement their earnings. Solade highlighted that while Nollywood enjoys a strong reputation as one of the largest film industries in the world, the benefits do not always translate into substantial financial rewards for individual actors. This imbalance, he said, shows that fame and wealth are not always aligned in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
