A member of the House of Representatives, Obinna Ikwechegh, has expressed concerns over the source of funding for various infrastructural projects being executed by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. Speaking to journalists, Ikwechegh said the state's legislators are in the dark about the financial framework behind the governor’s ambitious development agenda.

The lawmaker questioned the transparency surrounding the financing of several ongoing projects, noting that neither the state’s borrowing plans nor specific budgetary details have been made available to the public or lawmakers. He added that while development is welcomed, it must be backed by accountability.

Ikwechegh emphasized that the people of Abia State deserve to know whether the projects are being funded through loans, internally generated revenue, or federal allocations. He warned that lack of clarity could fuel speculation and mistrust, especially if debt is being incurred without legislative approval.

In response, Governor Otti’s media aides have maintained that all spending is within legal bounds and properly documented. They have urged critics to focus on the progress being made across the state rather than question the source of funding. Still, Rep. Ikwechegh insists that transparency must go hand-in-hand with performance.
