U.S. Birth Rate Hits All-Time Low

New figures released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirm that the fertility rate in the country dropped to an all-time low of 1.599 births per woman in 2024, the lowest level recorded in history.
Despite a slight 1% increase in the total number of births—about 3,622,673 babies born in 2024—birth rates declined across most age groups, especially among teenagers and women in their early 20s, which hit record lows.
Delayed marriage, economic uncertainty, and mounting costs of raising children. In response, U.S. policymakers have proposed incentives such as subsidies for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and “baby bonus” payments, though experts say these measures do not address deeper structural barriers like inadequate childcare and weak parental support systems.
