Tinubu Says Nationwide PHC Overhaul Is Underway
Omoyeni Olabode

President Tinubu has announced that his administration is upgrading thousands of primary healthcare centres across Nigeria and has committed significant funds to the initiative. He explained that the upgrades are focused on improving maternal care, diagnostic services, and basic medical infrastructure, especially in underserved and rural communities.
The president noted that this initiative is part of his broader health sector reform agenda, aimed at strengthening frontline medical facilities nationwide. The reforms include performance-based financing models, capacity building for health workers, and a renewed focus on making healthcare more accessible to all Nigerians.
While many have praised the effort and scale of the project, some health analysts and civil society groups have raised concerns about long-term sustainability. Issues such as adequate staffing, effective fund disbursement, and ongoing maintenance of the centres remain critical to the success of the program, requiring strong coordination between federal and state governments.
