Aliyu Audu, a prominent aide to President Bola Tinubu, has officially resigned from his position, citing a betrayal of democratic principles as his reason. In a strongly worded statement, Audu criticized what he described as an “unholy alliance” between President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to him, the administration's current direction contradicts the ideals and values that brought them to power, including transparency, inclusiveness, and respect for internal party democracy.

Audu expressed disillusionment over what he sees as the marginalization of key loyalists and a growing culture of political compromise. He claimed that individuals who contributed significantly to Tinubu’s political rise are being sidelined, while controversial figures like Wike are gaining undue influence. The former aide argued that the administration has shifted from building a progressive and reform-driven government to engaging in power deals that contradict the vision of change once promised to Nigerians.

In his resignation statement, Audu lamented that his efforts and commitment have been rendered meaningless in a political environment now shaped by what he called opportunism and backdoor negotiations. He specifically criticized the Tinubu-Wike alliance, suggesting it undermines efforts to foster genuine federal character, unity, and justice within the political system. He noted that many within the ruling APC are growing increasingly uncomfortable with the decisions and direction of the current leadership.

The resignation has sparked conversation within political circles, with analysts suggesting that it may point to deeper rifts within the presidency and the ruling party. While the Presidency has yet to issue a formal response to Audu’s departure, political observers believe his exit could embolden other disenchanted figures within the APC to voice their concerns. As Nigeria navigates complex political terrain, Audu’s resignation may serve as a signal of mounting internal discontent with the current administration.
