There was heightened security presence at the National Assembly complex on Monday as authorities moved to prevent suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming legislative duties. The Kogi lawmaker, who was earlier suspended over allegations of misconduct, had signaled her intent to return to the Senate chamber despite the unresolved disciplinary proceedings against her.

Dozens of security operatives, including armed personnel from the Sergeant-at-Arms unit and police officers, were stationed at key access points within the assembly premises. Staff and visitors were thoroughly screened, and entrance to the Senate wing was closely monitored. Some lawmakers and aides expressed surprise at the level of security but declined to speak on the record.

Senator Natasha has maintained that her suspension lacked constitutional backing and has vowed to challenge the decision in court. She argues that her rights as an elected representative of Kogi Central cannot be suspended without due process, adding that the Senate's action was politically motivated.

As of noon, she had not been sighted within the chambers, though her supporters gathered outside the National Assembly to express solidarity. Senate officials have yet to issue a formal statement on her attempted return or on when the suspension will be reviewed.
