Taraba Has Fallen Behind After 35 Years — Ex-Minister Mu’azu Sambo

Former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has expressed deep concern over the developmental trajectory of Taraba State, stating that the state has "fallen behind" in nearly every sector since its creation 35 years ago. Sambo lamented that despite being blessed with abundant natural resources and vast agricultural potential, Taraba remains one of the least developed states in the federation.
Sambo pointed out that while neighboring states have made significant strides in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, Taraba continues to grapple with a lack of basic social amenities and a struggling economy. He attributed this stagnation to years of "visionless leadership" and a failure to harness the state's comparative advantages, particularly in the areas of tourism (Mambilla Plateau) and solid minerals.
Sambo’s critique comes as political actors in Taraba begin to align themselves for the 2027 electoral cycle. He urged the people of Taraba to look beyond sentiment and elect "selfless and competent" leaders who have a clear blueprint for the state's revival. He emphasized that the 35th anniversary of the state's creation should be a moment for sober reflection rather than just celebration.
The former minister concluded by stating that Taraba’s redemption is possible, but it requires a radical departure from the status quo and a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
Do you agree with Mu’azu Sambo that Taraba has significantly fallen behind its neighbors, or is this simply a political assessment ahead of the 2027 elections? Share your comments below!
