Suspected herdsmen launched a violent attack on the Mbaivur community, located near the Nigerian Air Force Base in Benue State, leaving residents in panic and prompting urgent calls for increased security presence in the area. The assault, which occurred late last night, reportedly resulted in multiple casualties and widespread property destruction.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers stormed the community with firearms and machetes, targeting homes and farmlands in a coordinated strike. Several villagers fled into nearby bushes, while others sought refuge within the perimeters of the Air Force Base. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

Community leaders have decried the lack of proactive security intervention, especially given the proximity to a major military installation. They described the attack as part of a pattern of increasing assaults in rural Benue, a state that has witnessed frequent clashes between farmers and herders over land disputes.

Benue State authorities have condemned the attack and assured residents of ongoing investigations and planned deployment of additional security personnel. Humanitarian agencies are also being mobilized to support displaced families and assess the damage in the affected area.
