Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson either confessed or strongly implied his involvement to a family member, which led to someone contacting law enforcement.
Robinson was taken into custody in Washington County, Utah, roughly 250 miles from where the shooting happened. Investigators say he fired from a building about 200 yards away from the stage. Evidence cited includes surveillance footage of Robinson at the scene, messages on Discord about retrieving a rifle, and bullet casings engraved with politically charged messages.
Governor Cox declared that Robinson is believed to have acted alone. He also thanked Robinson’s family for coming forward with information. The arrest came after a rapid response by local, state, and federal agencies within about 33 hours of the shooting.
The case has raised widespread concern about political violence in the U.S. Many are calling for transparency in the investigations, while others are demanding justice for Charlie Kirk and calls for safeguards against further polarization.
