“Stop Blaming Whites Alone” — Charles Onyekachi Onyeabor Calls Out Hypocrisy on Racism in Africa

Italian-Nigerian singer Charles Onyekachi Onyeabor has sparked conversation by calling out what he describes as hypocrisy around racism in Africa, saying that Africans should stop always blaming white people for their problems. Onyeabor, who holds dual citizenship and studied at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, argued that while colonial and external influences are real, many issues on the continent originate from internal failures—poor governance, corruption, and self-accountability.
He emphasized that blaming external actors exclusively “lets us off the hook” for the responsibility of reforming structures in our own societies. Onyeabor stated that Africans must acknowledge their role in perpetuating injustice among themselves, and focus more on organisation, leadership, and solutions rather than pointing fingers at colonial history.
His message adds to the growing debate about where responsibility lies in tackling inequality and racism—not just abroad, but within African societies themselves.
What do you think — is Charles Onyeabor right to call for more self-accountability, or do external forces deserve the bulk of blame for ongoing issues? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
