Sowunmi Says He’d Join APC if He Leaves PDP, Citing Buhari and Tinubu
Omoyeni Olabode

Segun Sowunmi, former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign under the PDP, has reiterated that if he ever exits the party, his preferred destination would be the ruling APC. He pointed to his admiration for President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu as key reasons behind this stance .
In a January 2024 Twitter Spaces conversation, Sowunmi informed fellow PDP member Daniel Bwala to "keep space" for him in the APC, should he decide to defect. He expressed frustration with PDP’s resistance to reform, saying: “If they don’t want us to reform the party… keep space for me, I am coming.” .
Sowunmi has previously praised Buhari's leadership, even declaring he would “stab anyone” who insults the former president—highlighting the depth of his loyalty . He also described Tinubu as Nigeria’s first "real politician-president," reinforcing the appeal of APC's leadership in his eyes .
The PDP chieftain remains a vocal critic of his own party’s leadership while expressing respect for APC figures. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Sowunmi’s statements signal possible fluidity in partisan allegiances and suggest the APC could become a viable option for disillusioned PDP members.
