So-Safe Corps Nabs Suspected Cable Thief at Ogun Stadium

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps—popularly known as the So-Safe Corps—has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Aliyu Umaru, for allegedly vandalising and stealing underground electric cables at the Gateway International Stadium in Ilaro.

This was revealed in an official statement released on Friday by the State Commander, Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.

According to the statement, officers from the Ilaro Area Command were conducting a routine patrol at around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, when they noticed suspicious movement within the stadium premises located in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Commander Ganzallo explained that the patrol team quickly approached the location and caught the suspect red-handedin the act of vandalizing and attempting to cart away underground electrical cables.

“Upon confrontation, the officers discovered the suspect in possession of a quantity of stolen cables, along with tools used in the act, including a cutlass and a pair of scissors,” the statement read.

The suspect and the recovered items were immediately taken into custody. He has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Ilaro Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The So-Safe Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining safety across Ogun State, warning that anyone caught sabotaging community assets will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
